Gillie and Marc, International Artists
Artists Gillie and Marc Schattner are international artists whose artwork can be found in countries throughout the world. They have been creating art together since 1990. Their concept for the Statues For Equality movement developed from the realization that of the over 100 artworks they were commissioned to create, only 1% were for women. Additionally, the representations of women in the statuary commissioned were of unnamed women – representing symbols such as liberty, freedom, the profession of nursing, and motherhood. In 2019, the artist pair launched the Statues For Equality project to increase the representation of women in statuary with the purpose of educating and inspiring the public on the history and leadership of women throughout the world.
